What You Need To Do Before Working On A Structure

Was the structure built or altered before 2000? If so and

• You are carrying out a refurbishment or demolition ask for the pre-demolition/refurbishment Asbestos Survey as required under HSG 264.
• You are carrying out maintenance or emergency work ask for a copy of the Asbestos Management plan for the building, which will detail where asbestos and suspected asbestos material are located.
• If the above are not available then your client is in breech of the 2012 Asbestos Regulations and if you proceed on the project you will also be in breech and will be putting your employees at risk of exposure to a potentially lethal disease. Add in the distinct possibility of a HSE fine and the bad publicity attached, the risk for non-compliance is simply not worth it, in either human or financial terms.
