Asbestos Management - Type 2 Examination
Prior to its refurbishment, Solent Environmental conducted a survey on behalf of Hampshire County Council of Orchard Lea Junior School. In keeping with Hampshire County Council's Asbestos Management guidance a non-intrusive, Type 2 examination was carried out in a number of locations.
Asbestos was found in four specific areas which included insulating board window reveals, soffits and floor tiles. Lino containing asbestos was also identified.
Work had to be conducted on the ground floor and first floor areas both internally and externally. Solent Environmental presented a dedicated Asbestos Removal plan incorporating the installation of a mobile decontamination unit, 3 stage transition airlock at each working entrance with accompanying negative pressure airmovers. With barrier tape and signage in place the Hampshire Scientific Services Analyst inspected the site before commencement (witnessing a smoke test).
Permission was granted to proceed and within the time frame (and budget) the work was completed to the satisfaction of the authorities and signed off after visual and air sampling tests.This was in many ways a routine exercise but nevertheless a good example of how effectively and smoothly an important Asbestos Abatement situation can be resolved by co-operation, agreed procedure and professionalism.
